Noise Impact Assessments (NIA)
Wales
Most developments are likely to generate some level of noise, which can have an impact on nearby sensitive receptors and the surrounding environment. A Noise Impact Assessment (NIA) evaluates whether and how a propose development will impact the existing acoustic climate as a result of proposed operations.
An NIA will typically be required as part of a planning application when:
- A development is located near noise sensitive areas such as residential areas, schools or hospitals; or
- A proposed development introduces significant noise sources, such as industrial operations including waste management processes.
By assessing potential noise impacts early on in the process, this enables the inclusion of effective noise mitigation measures in a site design if required. This can include, site layout adjustments, acoustic barriers and acoustic bunds, ensuring that operations do not adversely impact the surrounding area as a result of proposed operations.
At TEPL, we work closely with acoustic consultants and local authorities and prepare and provide the necessary information required for a detailed NIAs for proposed developments. We help to identify potential noise issues early, ensuring that appropriate design and operational measures are in place to meet regulatory requirements and support a successful planning outcome.
