Project Summary

Following a securing an earlier workshop extension on behalf of the client, Technia Environment and Planning Limited was commissioned to support a further southern extension. The primary purpose of the extension was to provide additional covered storage space to improve the management of segregated commercial waste collections on site.

While delivering this operational improvement, the project also needed to address updated national and local planning policies focused on sustainability, environmental protection and the inclusion of Green Infrastructure (GI).

Our Approach

From the outset, we worked closely with the client to ensure the development supported the operational requirements without disrupting existing transport movements. Our approach included:

• Designing the building location and layout to accommodate existing operations and current vehicle movements on site.
• Incorporating Green Infrastructure measures following updates to planning policy.
• Responding to Local Planning Authority (LPA) queries regarding lighting by preparing additional assessments addressing ecological and transport considerations.
• Including active travel provisions as requested by the LPA to promote sustainable access to the site.
• Maintaining ongoing liaison with the LPA throughout the application process to address technical queries and secure planning approval.

Outcome

The project received full planning permission in May 2025, enhancing segregation and management of commercial waste while meeting current sustainability, ecological and transport-related planning requirements.
